Bradford is a city in West Yorkshire, which became a municipal borough in 1847, received a city charter in 1897. With a population of almost 350,000 it is the second-largest subdivision of the West Yorkshire Built-up Area after Leeds, which is approximately 9 miles to the east. 

The name Bradford is derived from the Old English brad (broad) and ford, referred to a crossing of the Bradford Beck at Church Bank below the site of Bradford Cathedral, where a settlement grew in Anglo-Saxon times. The town was recorded as "Bradeford" in the 1086 Domesday Book. 

The Bradford United name briefly appeared after the Second World War, playing in the Yorkshire League and appearing in the FA Cup until they folded in 1951.

The current club formed in 2012 as Toller FC playing Sunday league football, switching to Saturdays in 2018, joining the West Riding County Amateur League. Following the merger with the Yorkshire Amateur League in 2019, Toller won promotion to its Supreme Division in 2022. In the summer of that year, they joined forces with local powerhouse Phoenix FC to become Bradford United.

The Sports Park is a 5 minute walk from the campus, as well as the all-weather pitch, there’s tennis courts, physio room and training facilities. 

The 3G ground has a roped off section at the far side for spectators.

Bradford took control of the game early on with two cracking goals from Musa Balla Dukuray. The first was a powerful header at the far post from a corner kick, followed by an equally powerful right foot shot from the edge of the box. 

The hosts extended their lead with Umar Ali Zahoor deflected in a shot, then after the break Haroon Ali rounded the ‘keeper to make it 4-0. 

Lepton pulled a goal back, before Modou Juwara Sowe tapped in their fifth. The away side kept plugging away and grabbed another goal when Ross Woods robbed the defender and fired home. 

An entertaining encounter was rounded off with another top notch goal, this time from Ousainey Juwara Kora, who cut inside and fired the ball into the roof of the net.

The match was part of a daytrip to Bradford for the breadknife and I to tick off the GBG pubs in the city. We arrived at noon and headed to the Turls Green for lunch. We called at the Fighting Cock before going to the match, then met up at the Record Cafe bar afterwards. The pub crawl continued at the Boar & Fable, Corn Dolly, Exchange Craft Beer Hall and Jacobs Well, before heading back to Leeds. 

A great day out, where we drank in some top quality pubs, finishing off at the Wapentake in Leeds before boarding the Megabus.
